What
happens during School Visits? Two
school assemblies will play a key role in getting your students and teachers engaged
in Project Peru. Our
staff's ability to from personal connections with students and teachers while
visiting your school will make the online portions of Project Peru much more powerful.
Last year we
returned to over 90 percent of the schools that participated in pre- and post-adventure
school visits during the 2002/2003 school year. Plus, over 75 percent of these
returning schools expanded the number of students and teachers who participated
in last year's programming. Pre-Adventure
Assemblies First,
we will visit your school in February or March, before traveling to the Amazon.
Assemblies generally last between 40 and 60 minutes and we will tailor our program
to meet your group's needs and interests. Our main goals for this first visit
are to introduce you to the issues and topics we will explore during Project Peru
and to build personal bonds with participating students and teachers. Presentations
include: - photos,
videos, and other audio visual media
- worksheets,
and other educational activities
- hands
on activities
- time
for students and teachers to ask questions and get to know their learning adventure
guides
- basic
instruction on how to engage in our learning adventures
Post-Adventure
Assemblies
| In
May or June we will return to your school to engage participants in a second assembly.
After the adventure students will be brimming with questions and anxious to interact
with expedition members again in person. We will share the photos, videos, stories,
and visual aids gathered during the adventure. Plus, there will be plenty of time
for students to ask questions, demonstrate the knowledge they have gained, and
show off the bulletin boards, murals, and other projects that they have created. | Expedition
