Tent Talk
Listen to today's Audio Update!

The tent talk from this evening goes out to Big Michael, Dylan's dad

Daily Dilemma

Today we drilled six holes before we found anything but pure mud. Our good water hole ended up being several hundred yards
away from camp. In the future, how far should we go in search of good water before we should just melt snow? Or, should we just move our whole camp. What do you think?

In the afternoon of our last day in Kistiganwacheeng elementary school, we gave dogsled rides to first and second graders around a soccer field. The Cree children had lots of fun, despite imperfect snow conditions.

After dinner, the four of us went back to the elementary school to work in the computer lab. A gymnasium, however, caught the attention of the taller two of us. Adam and Andrew proceeded to have a slam-dunk contest with a volleyball they found-- conveniently, basketball hoops in elementary schools are nine feet high.
We went back pretty early to the teacherage (a house) in which we were staying, because we needed to pack up the sled before we went to sleep.
Dave woke us really early on the 25th. We wanted to try to get on the trail by 6:30. We didn't quite make our goal, but with oatmeal in our bellies and skis on our feet we headed out in the morning light.

We first took the winter road out of Garden Hill (making great time), and after about five miles we headed onto
a trappers' trail. We followed this trail for the remainder of the day. The trail took us over lakes, through woods,
and occasionally across a bog.

Can you believe that these guys actually just had a shower? The already dirty expedition team leaves Garden Hill. Next shower: at least a week away.
During our first day on the trail, Andrew spent most of the day driving the dogsled, while Dylan skied with Adam or Dave in front. After 27 miles of travel, the new additions to the crew had become skilled travelers.
After the long day we were all tired and ready to set up camp. Dave and Adam showed us the routine,
and soon we were all eating Ramen noodles in a toasty warm tent. We wrap up as Dave cuts the lard to feed the dogs, who earned their food by pulling hard all day.
