If we only had Casado in the United States

Casado con Pollo (chicken), Casado con Chuletas (pork chops), Casado con Pescado (fish) are wonderful dishes that can be found throughout Costa Rica. Casado is basically black beans, white rice, and usually some sort of salad or vegetable. Ticos usually order some sort of meat with their casado. Casado is served at most restaurants during lunch and dinner.

Dave gets ready to dig into his new favorite meal.
Some very small restaurants, or Sodas, only serve casado, other restaurants will have casado as one of many choices on the menu. Eric and I have grown to love casado and usually eat it at least once a day. By the end of the adventure, Pika was getting very tired of casado and started ordering other dishes when we went out to eat. However, Eric and I can't get enough of this great local dish.

I am hoping that we can find a restaurant in the Chicago area that serves Casado. I think I am going to go into Casado withdrawal! If any of your know of a place that serves Casado in the Chicago area please let us know.

Keep exploring,

Dave

A casado usually costs 800-1200 colones, which is about $2-$3. What a deal!
