 Next week
we will be traversing our first large lake, Cedar Lake. Grand Rapids is
on the far side of Cedar Lake, and we need to decide the best route to take.
The shortest route would be to go across the lake, but if we did that we
would be very exposed to the weather. We probably would not see very many
animals, because most of the animals stay closer to shore. We could also
follow the Northern Shore of the lake. This would be longer, but we would
not have to camp out in the middle of the lake, and we would probably see
more animals.
Which route should we take? A) Travel across the lake using the shortest possible route, even if it means camping out in the middle of the lake. B) Stay close to shore, but hop from island to island and point to point when the crossings are less than 5 miles. C)Stay close to shore the whole time, even if you have to add a lot of miles to your route.
What should we focus on in our Notes from the Trail next week? A) Focus on Lichen and Saylix. We want to know what it is like to be a sled dog. B) Focus on the plants and animals that you encounter. C) Focus on winter camping, and what it is like to travel in the winter.
