Frosty pops his head out of the tent and asks, "Is it done raining yet?"
Tonight's Notes from the Trail was penned by the Learning Adventure Guide in Training, Scott McPherson, our guest for the past two days.
We left Manigotagan yesterday under a cloudy sky which brought the first real rain of the trip. The rain, combined with a stiff breeze, made travel interesting. Lichen and Saylix were oblivious to it all and continued their usual strong pulling. The rain also made the ice very slick so Scott was able to hitch a ride with the dogs while Dave and Eric skied.
Last evening, we snuck out of the tent to startle two bald eagles soaring only 20 feet in the air. It was the first time we had seen eagles on the trip. We took it as just another sign of winter's end.

The Eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg is sparsely populated so we didn't see a soul all day. The days are getting longer and after making camp we had a lot of leisure time before enjoying one of Dave's gourmet feasts, which involved more cheese than I have ever eaten in one sitting.

We spotted these animal tracks near our camp tonight. Do you know what animal made them? Post you answer to the Message Board.
Today was a perfect travel day: cool and overcast in the morning and crisp ice to boot! As if on cue, the sun appeared-warming our faces just as we were ready to head in to shore to make camp.
Lake Winnipeg is a special place. One of desolate beauty, tempered by extreme weather systems inherent in a body of water of this magnitude. We will never forget this journey and those of you who shared it with us.
