Posted: March 23rd 10 PM Managatoggan, Manitoba

We left the Bruce's home at Loon Straights well fed and loaded down with fish for the dogs and tons of other good food. We had covered more than 10 mile before 11 AM when we stopped for our first rest. The sun was getting hot and the dogs needed a break. We munched on our homemade bannock smothered in the margarine and homemade jam that Doreen had tucked into the growing pile of food as we packed our sleds.

The votes are in and so I have shaved my beard. Frosty helped with the hedge trimming faze and I cleaned up with the razor.

We found this Inuikshuk on the side of the lake. Do you have any idea how would have built this, and why?

By 3 PM we had covered over 20 miles and were ready to find a place to camp. I noticed a cabin about a mile away and we headed for towards it for a closer look. We found a clean, inviting cabin and decided to stop for the night. The strong sun had melted much of the snow in the yard and for the first time in months Lichen and Saylix had a bed of pine needles to lay on. They sniffed and scratched at the ground and seemed to enjoy their new home. We all sat outside enjoying the warm day and talked about the coming of spring.

In the morning I realized that I had to shave my beard. The votes were tallied and 98% of you said I should shave my beard, not an easy task. After about an hour of hacking away with scissors and a razor my smooth, bare skin was unveiled for the first time in many months.

We marched into a strong south wind all day yesterday and it felt strange to have the wind beating against my face. It was only 15 miles to where we were planning to camp for the night, but fighting our way into the wind made travel harder than normal.

Lichen and Saylix love the treats that the students from Otwell Middle School made for them. Frosty even tried one and said they are pretty good. Maybe he has been on the woods too long!

We would like to welcome Scott McPherson as our first L.A.G.I.T. , or Learning Adventure Guide In Training.

This morning the sun woke me up at 6 AM. I was looking forward to sleeping in so I pulled my sleeping bag over my head and enjoyed several more hours of sleep before lighting the fire and starting my morning chores. Around 10 AM we walked into the town of Managatogon. We were planning to meet our friends Scott and Dean in town at the hotel. We arrived a little early and had breakfast and a bottomless cup of coffee while we waited. Scott and Dean arrived at noon and we chatted all afternoon enjoying each others company. Dean returned to Winnipeg, but Scott will be joining us for the last week of the adventure.
