After tallying the votes, we were set to treat ourselves to a big dinner when our new friends Gerald and Preston invited us to a moose meat feast.
We woke up early and hurried to pack the sleds and prepare for our long awaited departure from Grand Rapids. It's not that we haven't enjoyed Grand Rapids and the many new friends that we have made. We are just ready to get back in the wilderness. With the sleds mostly packed we marched down to the ESSO, a local Gas Station/Restaurant, that also acts as the major meeting place for the local fishermen.
We had to laugh as we were greeted by our fishermen friends and teased about still being in town. "Too cold for you guys to travel? Are you going to wait until Spring and paddle south? Maybe you should stay and fish with us this summer," they taunted! We tried to explain that we were having problems with our website, but to these rugged outdoorsmen, computers and the Internet were as foreign as commercial fishing is to you and I.

Our traditional northern meal of bannock bread, moose meat, potatoes, and beans. We drank lots of tea and swapped stories of life in the bush.

And people call us crazy! The ice fishing tournament in Norway House was held during the coldest day of the year (-40)

We ordered the hungry man breakfast and gobbled down mounds of eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, ham, and toast smothered in what they call "Mar-jar-een".

To make a long story short, we did not leave Grand Rapids after breakfast as we had planned. One last snag kept us busy until early afternoon. Tomorrow we WILL leave Grand Rapids!!!!
