The border country is a very unique and special wilderness, full of many interesting
plants, animals, and native people. In 1964 the federal wilderness act was passed which
protects the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and many other wilderness areas across
the country. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness makes up a large part of the border
country and is home to many species of plants and animals that depend on the large tracks
of undisturbed wilderness to grow and prosper. In this section you will find information
about some of the many natural history topics that make the border country such a special
place.
