We will be driving from Ely, Minnesota to Thompson, Manitoba. We need to catch a train in Thompson on Friday evening at 7 pm. The total distance between Ely and Thompson is about 910 miles. We have also noticed that the weather forecast does not look very good for the next couple of days-- there is a possibility of getting a foot of snow! Can you calculate how long it will take us to get to Thompson if we drive an average of 40 miles per hour? How soon could we get to Thompson if we drove an average of 30 miles per hour? How about 50 miles per hour?
Based on your calculations, when do you think we should leave Ely? Are there any other factors we should consider for the drive?

LEAVE AT 1 AM!!!!!!!!!!!
if you drove at 50 mph it would take about 18 hours.
I think you should leave Ely at 2pm Thursday afternoon so you would have time for important breaks and so you would be there at the train
early to pack things.
I think you should leave at wed. 10:30 p. m. . You can eat sleep and take care of the dogs. You should also watch out for snow.
I think you should leave on Wednesday at 4:00am you will have time to eat and sleep and walk your dogs. You can add 1 hour to the trip to watch for snow.
I think you should leave Ely on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. You will need 23 hours to travel to Thompson, but I think you should add 7 hours to stop and go to the bathroom, walk the dog and stuff like that. If you add about 3 or 4 hours that will allow you to get through the snow and get there on time.
I think that you should live Ely on Wedsday at
six thrity am.You will need 23 hours to drive to
Thompson but I think you should live early to
walk the dog use the restroom eat some lunch and
rest.
I think you should leave Ely on Wednesday at 7pm.
you'll need at least 5 hours to have, bathroom breaks, gas stops, and lunch breaks. It will take about 23 hours to get there so you should add on a couple hours and if you get there on thurs. you
should get hours to sleep.
All three rooms gave a lot of thought to when you would leave Ely. We were excited about helping you make this important decision. We started by figuring that you needed AT LEAST 24 hours of driving time. (We figured that out based on about 40 miles per hour.) We weren't sure what kind of roads there are in Canada, or if you will decide to stop for sleeping. Then we figured you probably have enough drivers to take turns and drive straight through. We thought there would be a lot of times that you will need to stop - bathroom breaks, food and snacks, fill up with gas, stretch your legs and get fresh air. We also were worried that snow might slow you down, or that you might find yourself coming up to an accident or road closer. We figured that getting there early wouldn't be a problem. In addition, we thought you should be able to stop and take pictures on the way and stop in towns that look interesting. For instance, if a town has a famous "peach pie", we think you should stop and trip it out. Because of all these ideas, our classes suggest starting anywhere between 7:30 A.M., and no later that 10:30 A.M. on Thursday morning. Have fun and safe driving!
i think you guys should leave at one o'clock traveling 50 miles per hour. That way you guys can sleep, eat, and do other necessities during the train ride. Any way Have Fun!! and GO PROJECT POLAR BEAR WOOHOO!! =]
We have considered all the options for getting to the train on time and we think the best option is to leave at noon on Thursday. That gives you the 22 hours to get there if you are going 40 mph and allows you time to sleep, make rest stops, get the dogs out, eat and load up the train. We hope you don't hit too much weather on the way there!
Well, we think that you should leave no earlier than 7 am on Thursday but no later than 10 am on Thursday. This will give you time to stop at towns or get food for the trip.
i think you should leave around 4:30 am
