What's the best way to get around Iquitos?

Daily Dilemma Update 4:

We are planning our time in Iquitos carefully because we have a lot of supplies to buy before heading into the wilderness. There are several ways to get around the city of Iquitos. We need you to help us decide which way would be the best. Iquitos is the largest river port in Peru. This means that boats carrying cargo are constantly going in and out of the city. The place where we will be shopping for supplies, the Belen market, is a floating shantytown of huts built on rafts, which rise and fall with the river. Canoes are commonly used to float from hut to hut, buying, selling, and trading jungle produce. We can pay someone a small fee to have them show us around. It would also be helpful to have the canoe carry our heavy gear. Taxi cabs can be used to travel across the city but traffic can be very slow. Another way to get around is the mottocarro, a modified motorcycle with a bench to carry three passengers. Mottocarros get around easier, and cost less than a taxi, but they are dangerous since they provide very little protection in an accident. Finally, there is always your own two legs. Walking is a reliable, safe, and cost free way to get around. Which way do you think would be the best and most efficient way of shopping for supplies: taxi, canoe, mottocarro, or feet?

I think you should use a canoe.

We think using a canoe would be easiest because you can paddle from market to market and also have the canoe to store gear and supplies that you buy.

my class thinks a canoe would be better because it is not dangerous like the motocarro and it can carry stuff on the water better that a car

Our class thinks you should use the canoe for your transportation. These are the reason why we think the canoe is the best way to travel:
-shopping is done on huts built on rafts
-a good experience because at home you can walk and ride in cars anytime..you can use oars and look into the water for things
-canoes can carry your gear...you could save your energy
-safer than motorcycles
-good experience for when you go to the rainforest...it's good practice
-traffic is too slow in a taxi and expensive!

Our class voted and decided that you should use a canoe. If you use 2 canoes you can carry more gear, or tie one canoe to the first one and use it just for gear.

Good luck.

We voted and think you should also use a canoe. Have fun shopping for your supplies!

The majority of my class thinks the canoe is the way to go. We think it would be a fun experience for you, as well as being the most efficient way. Also, it would be helpful and faster with the guide, so we say that if the price is right, hire a guide. This will save you time and energy.

Since you are already except canoers, we think a canoe would be most practical since it would be a good way to carry heavy gear.

Our class had many thoughts about the best type of transportation around Iquitos. Most of the class thinks you should take a canoe so that you can get around easier at the floating market. Some people thought walking is good, but that the canoes would be better for holding all the supplies. The mottocarro sounded adventurous to some kids, but we want the team to come home in one piece.
Have fun!

We think the canoe is the best choice. A canoe would have easy access to the floating vendors, it is inexpensive, and could hold a lot of supplies. Happy shopping!

We think you should take a canoe because there is no traffic, the tour guide would be helpful, it'll be easier to carry all the supplies you buy, and a canoe doesn't create pollution.

Others in our class think you should walk because it's reliable, it's free, you don't have to worry about traffic, and the safest way to travel.

Our class decided it would be best to use your feet. It is safe and it's cost free.

We think you should use a canoe to shop for you supplies becuase it is cheaper than a taxi, safer than a motocarro, and a canoe allows you to carry supplies easier than walking. Since the shops are on water you can get from one to the other easier.

We think that you should use a canoe because it can carry all your supplies and what you buy, it would be easier to get through the water, this will also help you practice for the flooded forest, and it should be quicker than a taxi.

I would walk because it is free. I would only use a bike, or a car if you are going really far away. that would be around 5 miles or more to take the car, or bike. I would also use the canoe because that could carry supplies eaiser than walking, and it might get you to were you need to go faster than taking a bike, or walking.

We think you should take a canoe because it can carry all your gear and supplies, it'll be easier and quicker to get to all the huts,it's safe, and cheap.

To get around Iquitos, we think you should use a canoe because it's quicker than a taxi, it can carry all your luggage, it'll be easier to buy supplies because it floats in the water, it's safer than the motorcarro, and it won't be as tiring as walking.

We believe a canoe would be best for you.

I Think that your transporation should be a canoe

Posted by: Miss Cegielski at April 6, 2006 02:16 PM

In my opinion, you should use the canoe not only because it is traditional but because it can help to carry your belongings and to get you all around more easily. Plus, it is free. I hope you follow my opinion.

i think you should use a canoe becaue it is at a resonable price, fast travel, you can avoid more traffic, you can carry more things, and you will have a guide to show you around.
