Week 3: What Route Should We Take in the Rainforest
Which route should we take in the rainforest?
Now that we are in the rainforest and are ready to begin canoeing, we have
to decide which route to take. We would like you to vote on this very important
decision for our team.
We could spend the entire time exploring the Pacaya River. This option would
allow us to spend a couple of days at each campsite, taking day-trips, and spending
time exploring and searching for plants and animals. Much of the Pacaya is very
wild and our chances of seeing wildlife might be better. However, we wouldn't
be going through many villages, so we would have fewer chances to learn about
the people that live in the flooded forest.
Another option is to paddle the Pacaya River in about 16 days and then for
the last 10 days of our trip we would paddle the Yanayacu river. We would travel
almost every day and would cover more distance and go through more villages,
where we could learn about the people.
Finally we could paddle down the Pacaya River as fast as we can, spending less
time looking for animals, and spend more time in the villages along the Yanayacu
River learning about how people survive in the flooded forest.
There are definitely benefits to all three options. Please have your votes
in by Wednesday morning so that we can know where we are going!
Keep Exploring!

i think that you should take your time because then you can spend time enjoying yourself while you are there instead of traveling all day. That is really boring and if you dont go back every year then it is pointless to travel all day. Spend your time there cause you might not go back to the same place.

I think you should take your time on the Pacaya river because you have already spent some time in the villages and now you can learn more about the wildlife instead of rushing really fast down the rivers.

I think you should go with the Paddle to the Pacaya and Yanayacu River. I think it would get you more information then the other two because you're taking more time and focusing less on animals. If you traveled their I believe you can help more villagers in the area.

I think that you guys should spend some more time in the rain forest and just sometime in the villages. The reason, because you can find a lot about the animals and plants and just a little time learning about the natives

We think that you should paddle the Pacaya and the Yanayacu Rivers because you'll get to learn more about the animals and people. By traveling on both rivers, you'll go deeper into the rain forest and get to see more exotic animals, you'll get to learn more about the people from both rivers (and their differences), and this will also give you an opportunity to see YOUR favorite animals.

Our class voted, and we tied!
Some of us think that you should take your time on the Pacaya River because animals are more interesting to learn about, there are some animals that we don't get to see in the US and we don't want you to pass up the opporutnity, and it's possible that some of the animals you will see might not be there much longer (they may become engangered or extinct).
Others in our class think that you should spend some time on both rivers because you'll get to learn about BOTH the animals and the people; the people are very different from us and it's interesting to learn about them.

We think that you should spend the whole time on the Pacaya River because you'll get to see more interesting animals, even though you won't go into villages, you'll still be able to meet and talk to some people, learn more about how the animals live, and learn more about animals and plants that we don't know that much about yet.
