Update 9: "I Like to Move It Move It"
We sure are moving on this learning adventure, but its really just the top
half of our bodies that are doing all of the work. On average, we probably paddle
about 13 miles per day in slow moving water. Because of all of the paddling,
our arms are getting strong, but our legs aren't moving as much as we would
like. Since dry land is difficult to come by, we can't really walk around or
even stretch. Therefore, the lower half of our bodies aren't getting much activity.
Can you think of some ways that we might be able to keep our lower bodies active
as we paddle through the rainforest? Remember, there are no treadmills in the
flooded forest.
Keep on Movin',
Anna
Maybe get out to swim once in a while.

We think you should go swimming and focus on kicking so your legs get more movement.
Another idea we had was to lie on your back in the canoe and do bicycle kicks in the air. That would help your legs get some strength.

You could get out and swim on your own or maybe with some pink river dolphins. You could always walk around your canoe.

To help your legs get some activity, we think you should go for a swim in the water, you could take turns hanging on to the back of the canoe while kicking your legs like a motor, or while you're in the canoe, try doing some leg lifts to keep your legs moving.

4th Grade HAWK Students have some suggestions for movement: 1) put something on your legs or ankles and lift them while sitting in the canoe; 2) when you get on dry land, run in place or jump rope; 3) do leg lifts in your hammocks; 4) in the canoe, lift your legs and do bicycle pumps in the air -- just be careful not to tip the canoe; 5) on dry land, walk in circles around the trees.

You guys should run in place when you are on dry land. 2)You guys should take turns paddling while the other people could swim or you guys could stop and all go swimming for a while.
