Each
update contains a Daily Dilemma for students to ponder and
discuss amongst themselves. This section of the web site
lets students read and respond to all of the past and present
daily dilemmas.

The Rainforest Project has deeply impacted both of our lives.
Costa Rica is such an amazing place to explore, and the
great thing about it is that there is tons of forests, animals,
and plants left to explore. What have you learned about
the rainforest during the past month? What things can you
do, or have you done to protect it? What makes the rainforest
worth protecting?

We would like to bring some rocks, feathers, turtle eggs,
and other things that we have found back to the United States
when we leave Costa Rica. We have been collecting these
things with the thought that we would bring them to school
visits. However, we are not sure if we are allowed to bring
these things back with us. What should we do?
Day

Since arriving in Costa Rica, we have met some amazing people.
All of them have helped us in some way. We would like to
show our thanks to them, but we're not sure how to. How
do you think we should thank the people who have helped
us in our travels throughout Costa Rica?
Day

We will spend the next few days in the largest cloud forest
in Costa Rica. Come up with two plants, two animals, and
two geologic factors that make a cloud forest different
from a tropical rainforest. A lot of the plants and animals
that we have seen so far in the cloud forests are different,
but we are not sure why. Please help us learn more about
the cloud forest!

Pika, Frosty, and I have been talking a lot about raising
endangered species in captivity and releasing the off spring
into the wild. We have come up with good arguments for and
against this practice. Come up with two positive and two
negative arguments for raising wild animals in captivity
and trying to release the off spring into the wild and help
us solve our debate.

The Irazu Volcano is 3,432 meters tall. It is the tallest
volcano in Central America, and on a clear day you can see
the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico from the summit.
We are wondering how high the volcano in in feet. Please
convert 3,432 meters to feet and help us solve our dilemma!
Day

We
have approximately $800 of our traveling budget left to
cover all of our expenses between now and November 21st.
How much money in dollars, and colones can we spend each
day? Do you think this will be enough money to cover our
expenses? If you think we are going to need more money what
are some things we could do to save money. If you think
we will have extra money what should we spend our extra
money on, or should we save the money for our next adventure?
Day

Costa
Rica is the most biodiverse country on Earth. It covers
only about 0.003% of the Earth's surface, but contains over
6% of the number of plants and animals of the world. List
three of the natural factors that you think make Costa Rica
so biodiverse.
Day
15
We
have been using cars, motor boats, and walking as our main
modes of transportation as we explore the rain forest. If
you were exploring the rain forest what modes of transportation
would you want to use?
Day
12
We
have noticed that the Cecropia Tree are the only tree in
the lowland rain forest that does not have vines, epiphytes,
or bromileads growing off of them. Pika knows the reason,
but won't tell us. He said, "Tell your students to
research it and tell you." Try to unravel the mystery!
Day
10
We
started looking for baby sea turtles today, but we did not
find any. Do some research and let us know where on the
beach we should look for the baby sea turtles.
Day
8
Some
sources have told us that the water in Costa Rica is safe
to drink and others have said that we should drink bottled
water. What should we do?
Day
5
Everything we do has an
effect on the environment. What are some of the things you
do that have a possitive impact on the environment?
Day

How much money should we
bring?
Day

What should we bring with
us to Costa Rica? Make a list of 5 things that we need to
bring with us.
