Hi! Spyder here, to tell you a little about myself. I’m small, compact, and full of energy. If I could choose three words to describe myself they would be playful, hard-working, and friendly. I get so excited in the morning when I know it’s time to run that the humans often have a hard time putting the harness on me. When we are working during the day, I always keep my tug line nice and tight and pull as hard as I can. At the end of the day, I curl up and take a nap until it’s time to eat. I always make sure to enjoy a little rest and relaxation after a hard day of work.
I like most all of my running partners, but sometimes when we stop for a short break during the day I can’t keep myself from barking and growling at my partner just a little bit. Most of them understand that I’m only playing, but every once in a while one of them loses their patience and tries to start a fight with me. I never fight back, though.
I pay close attention to everything. I use my nose, my ears, and my eyes to help me make sure that I don’t miss anything that’s going on around me. One day this winter a whole herd of animals that looked like deer but had huge antlers walked by the place where we were staying. I think the humans call them caribou. They were downwind of us, so we couldn’t smell them, but I saw them right away. None of the other dogs noticed the caribou for a loooong time, but I watched their every move until the last one was out of sight. I had never seen an animal like that before!
Whenever I notice anything along the trail while we are running, like a stick, a piece of grass, or even trash that someone left there, I always pick it up in my mouth to see if it’s food. It never is, but I still keep trying. Some day, I’m pretty sure that someone’s going to leave a nice, juicy steak along the trail. I just know it!
