The days are getting longer and we are starting to see more birds. Many birds live here in the Boundary Waters in the summer and migrate south for the winter. However, there are several birds that live here all year. Next week we would like to focus on one of the birds that is able to survive the long, cold winters of Northern Minnesota.
We could study Ravens, which are very intelligent and have been know to lead wolves to wounded or dead animals. We could study the Gray Jay, which is very bold and will sometimes come and land on your hand at lunchtime, looking for bits of food. Finally, we could study Bald Eagles. Most Eagles migrate farther South for the winter, but a few of these large raptors live here all year long.
