We will finish paddling in Grand Portage, Minnesota. This is an Ojibwe reservation on the shore of Lake Superior. While we are there, we are wondering what you would like to find out about the Ojibwe people. The Spirit Little Cedar Tree is a sacred white cedar tree growing on a bluff overlooking Lake Superior. It is over 300 years old. We could try to find out more information about the Spirit Little Cedar Tree. Wild rice has been an important food source for the Ojibwe. It has been harvested in Minnesota for thousands of years. We could learn about wild rice. Birch bark canoes are the forefathers of the kevlar canoes that we are paddling today. The Ojibwe harvested birch bark and other materials in the forest to make them. We could try to find out more about how these canoes were made. What would you like us to learn about?
