Ochre Sea Stars can be found clinging to wave swept rocks in the intertidal zone. They can be purple, orange, or even dark brown. They can grow to be about 14 inches wide (36 cm).
The Ochre Sea Star is the most commonly encountered sea star on rocky beaches from Baja California to Prince William Sound, Alaska. It has also been found in water up to 100 meters in depth. Ochre Sea Stars like to eat California mussels, barnacles, limpets, snails, and other organisms of the intertidal zone.
