What should we try to bring back for our school assemblies?
Tomorrow is our last day in Brazil. We are planning on buying some souvenirs for ourselves, family, and loved ones. But, it also occured to us that we should buy something to make our upcoming school assemblies more interesting. What should we look for?
We have seen many interesting things in the markets around Belem, including indigenous beads for dancing ceremonies, pottery, bows and arrows, and baskets. We've also seen a few dried specimens of insects, butterflies, fish, and other animals. We cannot obviously bring live animals home with us, nor would we want to support the illegal pet trade.
What should we bring home, and what other types of things should we look for? Send us your suggestions!
Answer to yesterday's dilemma:
Thank you for your ideas about how we should help people that ask us for food or money. We liked the idea of asking a local church how we could help, and also giving people food rather than money. We will try both of these options tomorrow as we continue to explore Belem.
What is your favorite part of the Trans-Amazon Expedition?

Comments
I would skip buying any dried creatures because it does support killing animals for profit. Instead, I would buy local products...beads, pottery, textiles, masks, children's books, puzzles, coins, school supplies, etc. Children enjoy seeing items used by other cultures. My students are getting excited about your visit to our school next week. :)

We think you should buy dried insects(not alive) and animals/fish(like the piranha). You could show us them. Have a safe journey home.

We think you should bring home different things for everyone you want to show to show them the culture of the Amazon people. You should bring different beads, dried insects, pottery and other things you thought were interesting along your journey. Have safe travels home and see you soon!

I think you should bring a bow and arrow home, and it would be pretty cool if you bring it to school assemblies. The kids would really like to try that but tell them to be careful!

Dear Trans Amazon Team,
Good luck on your trip home! I think you should bring home pottery, beads, and a dried butterfly, because it would be interesting to see the hand made pottery! I think you should bring home a butterfly, because the animal kind of creeps me out. I hope you had fun this year.Bye

I think you should buy some pottery, baskets, and other things that people in the Amazon use for ceremonies, or just what they use everyday. Your loved ones can see the culture of the Amazon. I think you should bring the same kind of things for the schools, but also bring some dried specimens. Anyway, I really enjoyed this expedition, and I hope you have a safe trip home.

We think you should bring different pictures, and items that people in Brazil make, and different souvenirs. Our favorite part of your trip was learning about the animals and how people live in Brazil. Hope you have a good and safe trip home. See you in a little while!!!

We believe you should bring back some of the clothing that the people wear. If you could bring some of the money they use.
