What should we try to bring back for our school assemblies? printer.gif

Tomorrow is our last day in Brazil. We are planning on buying some souvenirs for ourselves, family, and loved ones. But, it also occured to us that we should buy something to make our upcoming school assemblies more interesting. What should we look for?

We have seen many interesting things in the markets around Belem, including indigenous beads for dancing ceremonies, pottery, bows and arrows, and baskets. We've also seen a few dried specimens of insects, butterflies, fish, and other animals. We cannot obviously bring live animals home with us, nor would we want to support the illegal pet trade.

What should we bring home, and what other types of things should we look for? Send us your suggestions!

Answer to yesterday's dilemma:

Thank you for your ideas about how we should help people that ask us for food or money. We liked the idea of asking a local church how we could help, and also giving people food rather than money. We will try both of these options tomorrow as we continue to explore Belem.

What is your favorite part of the Trans-Amazon Expedition?

I would skip buying any dried creatures because it does support killing animals for profit. Instead, I would buy local products...beads, pottery, textiles, masks, children's books, puzzles, coins, school supplies, etc. Children enjoy seeing items used by other cultures. My students are getting excited about your visit to our school next week. :)

Max says get something from the Amazon that the people use every day and demonstrate how to use it.

We think you should buy dried insects(not alive) and animals/fish(like the piranha). You could show us them. Have a safe journey home.

We think you should bring home different things for everyone you want to show to show them the culture of the Amazon people. You should bring different beads, dried insects, pottery and other things you thought were interesting along your journey. Have safe travels home and see you soon!

I think you should bring a bow and arrow home, and it would be pretty cool if you bring it to school assemblies. The kids would really like to try that but tell them to be careful!

Personally I think you should bring home the dried insects and the fish. I think you should bring home the dried insects and fish because then you could show them to us the next we meet. Have a very safe and nice ride home!!!

You should bring home a type of animal that is dead and interesting. You could show us a type of food or weapons. Be careful coming home.

We think you should bring some South American candy. We also think you should bring us some pictures so we can see where you stayed at. Have a nice trip home.

We had so so much fun following your expedition on the website for our science class. I hope the team had so much fun, also. I hope you have a good trip back. Your friends from St. John of the Cross.

We have been following your expedition for our science class. We have had so much fun on your website. It was fun seeing Dave in person when he went to our school! Hope you come back safe and healthy and we hope you find all your luggage. Bye from Saint John of the Cross school!(P.S. we loved the mystery photos!)

Dear Trans Amazon Team,
Good luck on your trip home! I think you should bring home pottery, beads, and a dried butterfly, because it would be interesting to see the hand made pottery! I think you should bring home a butterfly, because the animal kind of creeps me out. I hope you had fun this year.Bye

We think you should go to the beach and look for small souvenir shop or collect sea shells to bring home. We hope you have a safe journey home. We had fun, too.

Buy the least expensive most interesting dead dried up animals you can find. It was really fun learning about the Amazon Rain Forest.

have a safe trip home i hope u have learned something about he amazon. your friend nick and James.

You should bring back pictures and toys to show what kids play with there. Have a nice trip home.

I think you should bring toys to show what it is like to live there as a kid. Thanks for doing this adventure. Artelago "Good Bye." (I hope that is the correct spelling.)

I think you should buy some pottery, baskets, and other things that people in the Amazon use for ceremonies, or just what they use everyday. Your loved ones can see the culture of the Amazon. I think you should bring the same kind of things for the schools, but also bring some dried specimens. Anyway, I really enjoyed this expedition, and I hope you have a safe trip home.

We think you should bring different pictures, and items that people in Brazil make, and different souvenirs. Our favorite part of your trip was learning about the animals and how people live in Brazil. Hope you have a good and safe trip home. See you in a little while!!!

I really liked the trip. Do you recommended the Amazon River trip? It sounds like you liked the trip. Bon Bea! See you soon.

We think you should get the beads used for dancing ceremonies. Also a recipe for any kind of food there and pottery. Baskets to show the different schools would be cool. Hope you find something good!

We believe you should bring back some of the clothing that the people wear. If you could bring some of the money they use.

You should bring home some clothes form brazil

We think you should bring dried butterflies home and put them in a case. The beads would be pretty too. Have a safe journey home for the holidays.

I belive you should find some recipes or money that they used. My last idea is make a little booklet with all the things you did or places you visted and use photos. Bye I am sorry that all your adventur. BYE

We think that you should bring home some sort of local game that is played in the Amazon. We would also like to see toys and clothing that you bought while you were in the amazon.

You guys should bring back some food that you had in Brazil so that we can try it just nothing with bugs ok!
