Our stoves are broken how can we cook our food?
Our camping stoves have broken! For the entire trip we have been using two small collapsible gas stoves. When Dave tried to light them last evening, no flame came out. We all worked to clean them, but we're afraid that they have corroded to the point of not being fixable. What should we do? Get creative and think about how we can cook our food during the last week of our trip.
Answer to yesterday's dilemma:
Thank you for your suggestions for how we can help our upset stomachs. We will certainly take your advice and drink plenty of water and try to rest.

I think you should try a few more times to light it. If that doesn't work you should go into the nearest town and look for someplace to get your mail or rent a P.O. box and have someone send another one to you. In the mean time you should use sticks, twigs, and garbage (like extra paper)to help you light a fire. !!!!

I think you should cook the rest of your food by a fire that you could make. That will make you through your last week there.

you should just use a fire. and if the wood was wet burn some of the plastic bags used to carry your food.and if the ground was wet put the dryest rocks you can find on the ground the gather up sticks and start a fire.

To solve the cooking dilemma you could cook by a campfire, maybe it's hot enough to use a solar collector for some things, and/or you could cook in villages asking to use the stoves of the villagers.

We think that using fire wood that you find along the river is the best way to cook. You can make a tri pod out of sticks to hold your pots above the fire.
To save time, we think you should ask the people in the village if they will share their lunches or dinners with you and you can pay them something for the meal.
We also think you might try and eat raw foods for lunch or breakfast, such as fruit salad or vegetables instead of cooking all your meals. For snackes you can try peanut crackers and other kinds of packaged foods.
One more idea is to possibly cook two meals (oatmeal, and rice) using the same fire. That way you won't have to spend much time making lunch.

Use flint rocks to make a spark to start a fire, or rubbing to sticks together. Be very careful we don't want you to start a forest fire. You could also use dry leaves and grass as natural fire starters. You could also talk to people about helping you cook. We don't think that you should eat different raw food for the sake of getting your calories, there is too much of chance that you will get sick. Then you would be worse off.
