Piranha are quite aggressive and like to swim together in large groups. We have learned from the locals that we do not really need to worry about piranha every time we go swimming. Really, the only time you need to watch out for those sharp teeth is if you catch a piranha. When fishing for piranha, you need to be extremely careful when taking a piranha off the hook or out of a net.
There are several species of piranha in the Amazon River. This is a red bellied piranha, which is the most common.
