Where should we buy our food? printer.gif

Please join us in the Chatroom from 9 AM until 10 AM CST today (Monday October 6th)!

This afternoon we will buy food for a large portion of our journey. We have two options. We could go to the main market in Manaus to buy our food. Or, we could go to Carrefour, which is a large grocery store that is similar to Walmart.
Our team is divided on where we should shop, and we need your input to to help us decide. Some team members think we should shop at Carrefour, because it would take us less time and it would be safer than shopping in the main market. Other team members think that we should shop in the main market because the food will probably be a little cheaper and fresher. Can you think of any other reasons that we should shop at either Carrefour or the main market? Where should we do our shopping?

Where should we buy our food?

There might be a greater variety of fresh foods at the main market, and you might not always get fresh foods along the way.

If you need other things, you might be better at Carrefour, especially for the things that you don't want to spoil.

Probably it is best for you to go to both.

Less traveling to the main market and the food will be fresher and less expensive. You need to be healthy on your trip and fresh is the best.

You can get anything you Need at Carrfore, and better prices-maybe at the market. So it would be best to do both and make quick decsions, so you have enough time.

You should go to the main market so you can learn about the local foods. The food is also fresher and cheaper and it will take less time to shop.

We want you to be safe, however, so maybe you should try Carrefour. Also, you might be able to find foods that you recognize from home and have a better selection.

We think you should go to both. At the market, you'll want some healthy fresh fruits & vegetables. You should also get some meats for protein.
Then you can go to Carrefour for some necessary canned goods for the trip.

Our class thinks that shopping at both would be a good idea.We think that it would be a good idea to save time that you would split your group. We are also concerned about what you meant by being safe? We also would like to know how you communicate with the native people in the Amazon?

We think you should go to both places because you'll want some fresh foods, but it won't last for too long. You'll need to buy canned food at Carrefour to last the trip. We also think that you should have a larger part of the group go to the market for safety and stick together.

Our whole class thought: You can meet new people at the main market and get to know some of the natives and learn about their lives.

If you buy from local farmers at the market then you are supporting them and giving your money to people who need it.

Some other students had these ideas:
They have vegetables and fruits for you to eat and it’s really good to eat vegetables and fruits.
-A.P.

If they market is outside you could smell how good everything is. -T.W

Carrefour, because it might be the last "large store" for awhile and you can get other things besides food. You also can get supplies that can last longer.

You could go to the local market, because you will spend less and you will get to see more local culture.

It would take too much time for you to shop at both. We think you should just shop at Carrefore because safety is more important that money.

The local market is cheaper, but you might find things at the larger store that you can't find other places.

If you go to both, you can buy a larger variety, and there might not be something you need at the local market.

I think you should go to the main market because it has healthier food and healthier food gives you more energy
