A cuia. While the fruit found inside a cuia can be eaten, the main purpose of this plant is to provide people with bowls and vessels for storing liquid. A gourd grown in the U.S. might be used in much the same way.

While this cuia container is very basic, some cuia bowls have designs carved into them. It takes great skill to turn the shell of this gourd-like plant into an intricate work of art.
