How should we celebrate Tony's birthday?
Response to Yesterday's Daily Dilemma:
Thank you for all of your suggestions for ways we can thank people that help us along the river. We will certainly continue to thank people and we will try to give them small gifts, and take photos of them and put them on the internet.
What is your favorite part of the Trans-Amazon Expedition?

Banana Boats
Bananas, small marshmallows, chocolate chips peanut butter, foil
(you may not have all these ingredients, but hopefully something to put in the bananas)
Hold the banana with ends pointing upward. Carefully slice a "flap" out of the skin only. Start at stem end and go to other end. leave the flap attached. Pull the sides a bit so banana is loose in skin. Spread with small amount of peanut utter then place desired amounts of chocolate chips and marshmallows tucked inside the skin along side banana. Fold the skin flap back over and wrap in foil. Cook over coals for a few minutes to melt chocolate and marshmallows. You may substitute or leave off any toppings. Just peanut butter and a little cinnamon is good!

I think you should make something that tony likes, like smores, if he likes those. I think you should make hot dogs or fish, because it would give you better strength than unhealthy cake
Posted by: sarah | October 15, 2008 10:36 AM
I think you should make regular food, like fish or salad, or a fruit dessert. a birthday cake isn't healthy anyway, so if you make something healthier, it will give you more srength

Mrs. Palmer's second grade class in Middlebury, Indiana thinks that you should make Tony king for the day. He should get to decide where you go and what you do. You could make him presents from items you find in nature, you could mold your food into a birthday cake shape and you could sing him happy birthday!
Happy Birthday Tony!

Take some time to watch the stars and tell spooky stories.
Haley has a recipe:
Boil rice and mold it into fun shapes. Mash bananas and put it on the top like frosting.

Have a party on the boats and make his favorite meal. Choose between a traditional Brazilian celebration or show him an American style celebration. Have a water party, swimming, water games, canoe diving, water wrestling, water balloon fights, end with singing and dancing. Get posts from us (all of the participants) singing happy birthday or sending birthday e-mails.

Have a swimming party! Play water games, swim and jump off the canoe! Then, make a s'more cake! Yum!
Posted by: Nora | October 15, 2008 1:50 PM
We think you should make him a special dinner of whatever he likes. It could be an american meal or a brazilian meal.you should also make him a different kind of cake but with fruits instead of cake mix.
Happy Birthday Tony Nicole & Meggie

We think you should let Tony pick a special activity for the day. Also you should play some fun games that he would enjoy Toni & Holly.
Posted by: SJC Kids 201 | October 15, 2008 1:55 PM
We think that you should have a mud fight and then all jump in the water and sing happy birthday to Tony! That would be a fun celebration. Kaitlyn & Kristy

You should have a swimming party and come up with mini games like lemonade or scatagories. Use bananas or if you can find any fruit or anything else, see who can make the most creative thing out of it. Our last idea is to have an American Idol, but instead of singing do whoever has the best animal voice. Katie & Olivia
Posted by: Sjc kids 202 | October 15, 2008 2:32 PM
We think that you should have an American style party. You should play a birthday prank on him as a joke. Then catch some extra special fish. He'll love that. Also play some water games. That would be fun.
Sing happy birthday really loudly, and see if the animals will join in! Decorate the boat with leaves and flowers. Lena & Anna
Posted by: SJC Kids 20 | October 15, 2008 2:35 PM
You should put a secret post on the internet asking people to send emails that say "Happy Birthday Tony!", Then, make his favorite campsite dinner and show him the emails with dinner. Then stay up late, swim, and eat s'mores, but don't let him see the site!

Go on an animal hunt and try to find an undiscovered insect.- Pete
Or you could make smores or cobbler or something else and go for a swim in the river. - Matt

Celebrate by vine swinging into the Amazon and go for a swim!
You can have a little fire and campout with smores. Then have a dance party!

Do a b-day trick and put a frog in his bed.
Wake him up by yelling "Happy Birthday!!!"
Make a b-day dessert that people on the river would make.

I think you should celebrate his birthday by letting him choose what he wants to do!
Posted by: stann4-fkm | October 15, 2008 3:07 PM
Since it is Tony's birthday you should ask him what he wants to do that day. You should do whatever he wants, but you should also make something special for him like a fancy fruit salad(if fruit salad can even be fancy), a little tropical concoction of tropical foods, or ask around to see what kinds of cool, tropical arts and crafts the Amazon people make for birthdays.
Posted by: stann4-sen | October 15, 2008 3:09 PM
You should suddenly push him in the water and have a party in the water. For a treat you should find edible things in the forest ( like bananas and coconuts )and mix them together.
Posted by: stann4-swg | October 15, 2008 3:11 PM
For Tony's Birthday you can have camp fire and do a day of things that Tony would want to do. In the mornig you can sing him happy birthday and give him a present.A present that can be made with your creativity something made out of sticks or rocks. something creaative.
Posted by: stann4-nie | October 15, 2008 3:12 PM
I think that you should catch him a fish for him and sing him a happy birthday song.
Posted by: stann4-jho1 | October 15, 2008 3:12 PM
I think for Tony's birthday you should let him go anywhere he wants to go for the say on the river. Also you should make him a fruit basket and fish for some fish and ask some local members to show them how to make fish for him.
Posted by: stann4-bdd | October 15, 2008 3:13 PM
You can make a cake out of bananas and other fruit and make it into the shape of a birthday cake. Then sing happy birthday. Have him be the leader and where you guys should go for Tony's birthday.
Hope it helps.

I think you should do a nature hunt along the bank of the river. Sing Happy Birthday. You can play games in the water.
Posted by: stann4-kar | October 15, 2008 3:13 PM
A good way to celebrate Tony's birthday is make a birthday dessert with fresh fruits. Then you could take him to his favorite place he likes to go.
Posted by: stann4-sjm | October 15, 2008 3:15 PM
Since Tony's Birthday is Sunday you should ask him what his favorite wild animal is.Then you could probably find it in the amazon and show it to him.He would probably be happy.
Posted by: stann4-wsj | October 15, 2008 3:15 PM
I think you should play games like marco polo or water polo. Than you should eat something tony likes for dinner. Then you should sing songs over the camp firer.
Posted by: stann-mmt | October 15, 2008 3:19 PM
For Tony's birthday I think that you should make him a card. You should also pull a prank on him for a present. Then you should go swimming for the rest of the day.
Posted by: stann4-dnc | October 15, 2008 3:19 PM
You could let Tony do whatever he wants whenever we want. Plus get him his favorite treats just in case this plan doesn't
work. C'mon. Just for one day. Please. He is going to love it.

Since Tony's B-day is Sunday, and you can't bake him a birthday cake, and you couldn't go shopping, how about carving a boat for him and then name it "Tony's Ride" and if that doesn't work (since his Birthday is only 4 days away) then ask him what he wants to do so he can have a BLAST!!!
Posted by: stann4-hdj | October 15, 2008 3:19 PM
You could have a party with banana podding and swimming in the river and you could talk about your trip. You could take a canoe ride before you go to bed. I think he would like that a lot. Also tell stories about when you were kids. That should be fun.
Posted by: stann4-hsd | October 15, 2008 3:19 PM
I think you should do fun things and have a good birthday . You should hang with the flow and get yo party on! piece out homes.
PS. make sure tony is the three C's cool. calm. and collect. LATER DOG.

I think you could have a swimming party. When you are done and ready to eat you can tell stories you have from other expeditions. For desert you can make something he likes.

We think you should make him breakfast, serve him fruit salad. Then go swimming and swinging on vines. His gift should be something from the rainforest, like a pet snake.

I think you should have a water party for him. Then, push him into the lake and come in after.
Posted by: Desirae | October 15, 2008 4:16 PM
Some of our ideas are:
1) Play with the dolphins.
2) Sing him his favorite song.
3) Give him a break and make sure he has a lazy day.
4) Leave the Amazon and take him to see his parents in Brazil (wherever they might live).
Posted by: Carson 209 | October 16, 2008 11:11 AM
1) You could sing "Happy birthday" to him.
2) You could play soccer. 3) You could create a talent show for him.
