What Should We Do in Manaus?
Next week we will reach Manaus. Manaus is the largest city in the Amazon Rainforest. Over 2 million people live there. We plan to spend two days in Manaus before we fly back to the United States. What would you like us to study while we are exploring this bustling city? Would you like us to go to the opera house, the visit the central market, or explore the rubber museum?
The Opera House was built in 1896. Most of the materials and artists that built the opera house came from Europe. It is supposed to be an amazing place to visit, and is an example of the wealth that the rubber boom brought to Manaus.
We have been told that the market has many types of fruits and medicinal plants from the forest, and you can purchase just about anything you need there. If would probably be an interesting place to visit.
If we visit the rubber museum we could study more about how rubber was harvested from the rubber trees during the rubber boom, and learn about how the rubber tappers and rubber barons lived.

We think you should go to a rubber museum because it sounds super cool and full of information. You wrote about rubber in your Cultural Connections artical and we would like to learn more about the rubber trees!

I've never heard of a rubber museum, it would be cool to see one on a video!! It sounds like you had fun writing about rubber trees!! Maybe seeing a rubber museum in person would be interesting. I know I found it interesting reading about the rubber boom.

I think you should go to the rubber museum because it would probably show you how much rubber impacts our lives. You could also see how difficult to is to harvest natural rubber. Or you could see if when they melt the sap into rubber if it is harmful to the envirenment.
With Love,
Quinn

I think the central market would be a great place to visit so you could learn the products they sell in the amazon.

I want the team to go to the rubber museum since it probably has more history than the other places. It sounds fun too!
One reason I like it is because the way they made things back then is very diffrent from the way we do things now. Like the transportation is not the same. There are big ships to take things from one place to another. Then they had little canoes. The people now get paid way more than the people back then too. Also there are better tools for getting the rubber. I think it was maybe hard to get it off of the trees.
You can also learn more there than you can at the other places. The enviornment probably has more history than others because the trees might have been there frist. Speaking of the trees you can get taught a lot about them I think. You can learn stuff about the river and perhaps what kind of animals live in it or something.
The lives of the tappers were really bad. They had to do more than 100 trees. That is a lot of work for just one person. As I said they got paid very little money. They deserved more! The tappers had to work a long time. They must have been really tired!
The rubber museum would be an interesting place to visit. You would learn a lot of exciting facts. I think it is the best place out of the three. Hope you go there!
