This week we've been talking about the importance of healthy habitats. We all know that the Amazon Rainforest is a habitat that can sustain a tremendous amount of life. Yet, the Amazon is facing difficult challenges, primarily habitat loss.
Major industries have significant impacts on the habitat here in the Amazon. Big agriculture companies (like fruit and vegetable producers), cattle companies, and seed companies are major contributors to habitat loss through destructive growing techniques. Some oil companies are also to blame for habitat loss and disruption. And the worst part of it all is that many of these companies are from the United States.
Try to find out which companies are having negative impacts on the rainforests. What can we all do to let these companies know that their practices are hurting the rainforest? Are there ways to change their practices to be more sustainable and still allow them to make money? Let us know what you think.
Thanks for suggesting that we should be cautious when trying to find a community to stay at for the night in response to yesterday's Daily Dilemma. We will begin to look for a community to stay at earlier in the day now that they seem spaced further apart.

You should write to them or tell them in person.

We could send them letters saying that their company should start thinking about the environment before it's too late. Tell them that if we start losing animals what's going to stop humans from being next. Then there will be no one to buy your products.

I just looked up the affects of mining in the rainforests. 17% of all copper comes from the rainforests. If we were to just mine in 1 area of the rainforests, and only somewhere with nothing living in it, we could save the lives of thousands of animals every year. We could replant the trees that we cleared for mining in an area that is overpopulated. The plants that are in that area we could use in medicine and whatever is not used we could replant.

Oil companies should look for somthing different than gasoline to fuel cars. Also they should not be aloud to dump waste into the rainforest.

You can write to the companies and tell them that what they are doing is hurting the rainforest and that they need to change what they are doing in their buisness. You could aslo talk to them in person and tell them exacley what they can change. What they can change is that the need to stop knocking down trees and find different land to use. Maybe they could use land were trees have already been knocked down, or cut down trees in an area were they wouldn't have survived any way. They could aslo go to an area were the trees are dead so that they won't be causing any harm and they would be helping the enviroment by cutting down the trees because then new growth could come to that part of the rainforest. Kids could aslo help you. You could ask kids to write to the companies and tell them what they could stop doing and what they could be doing to help the rainforest more then the are now because their not even helping the rainforest now!

I would sugjest you write a letter, but most companies never respond to that. If you find that something is illegal, then you should contact some sort of authority, like the police(if there are any).

I think we could cut down on oil so we dont cut down as much of the rainforest.
