This mystery photo is of a wolf spider hard at work digesting an insect.   We found this wolf spider at one of the shelters we were staying at.  

Wolf spiders are named because of the fact that they chase prey, rather than relying on webs to catch their next meal.   They rely on excellent eyesight to hunt. They also are very good at feeling vibrations their victims make while moving.  

Most wolf spiders are not aggressive toward humans, but will bite if provoked.   Generally when we see large spiders, first we identify whether or not its toxic, and then generally leave it alone.   We always shake our clothes and boots before putting them on, because wolf spiders, and other large spiders, often are attracted to the warmth and shelter our clothes provide.
