Earth Day Daily Dilemma!
Thanks for your answers to Monday's daily dilemma about what we should with the trash we accumulate. We currently use plastic camping bowls and metal spoons for eating all of our food out of. These are washable and re-usable. Also, we'll use your suggestions to buy groceries that aren't packaged, including local fruits and vegetables while we're re-supplying food in Tefe. You really did some impressive thinking on this dilemma. Those of you who sent in suggestions should be proud. We hope you're doing your part at home by using these suggestions too!
Join us for a live chat from the Amazon! We'll be chatting tomorrow, Wednesday, April 23 from 9 am to 10 am CST. See you there!

I should reduce my use of trash by using reusealbe and recyclable things. I can use recycling bins for paper and cans. Also when I get stuff from the store I can use reusable bags. That is what I can do to help save the earth.

I think you can reuse most of the things you use, and happy Earth Day!

I think we should actually cut down on resources we use on a daily basis.
Also, teach them how to use things over and over like us Americans do.

1.We should use canvas reuable grocery bags instead of paper or plastic.
2. Drink less drinks that come in plastic or aluminum cans.
3. At school, reduce the amount of paper you use by always writing on the front and the back.
4. Buy rechargable batteries instead of throwing them away.
5. Don't use paper plates or cups.
6. Use washable dish cloths instead of paper towels.
Happy Earth Day Team!

you should buy a recycling bin and empty it when your done with the trip.
Posted by: nathan | April 22, 2008 10:51 AM
you should use recycling bags and recycle all the things that you can recycle in bigger towns.

Our classroom already recycles paper when it is not recycled by the school or town.
In collecting anything for recycling, we first have to have a desire to collect and a place to collect it. One student said that she could start collecting plastic soda bottles.
Another said that plastic bottles could be reused as water bottles or some other liquid.
Use paper bags for shopping and not the plastic. Also take plastic bags back to the store for: 1) to reuse, or 2) to recycle at the store.
We could also clean up the park of some garbage and try to recycle some of that.
We could buy cloth or spring bags for shopping (or make our own, as one of my students insists, but I don't know how).
We could start using mechanical pencils so that trees are not cut down for pencils.

I think that when anyone is in a city or anyplace else you should pick up trash you see on the ground. This would make the qworld a cleaner place

I think that we could do this stuff:
1. Drink out of reuseable bottles that can be refilled
2. Use the 3 c's REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
3. Save grochery bags and use bags that can be used again.
4. Carpool
We should give the earth a chance! You can make a difference! And so can I!

There are many ways we can reduce our trash when you buy groceries you could make the bage they come in good for other uses. Try to recycle. Just remember:
Try to reduce and reuse.

try buying foods that aren't in bags.

I think that I could recycle more aluminum cans, water bottles, and cardboard. Also I think I could use more reusable things like metal spoons and containers when you pack your lunch for school.

We reuse water bottles and have garbage free lunch days where we try to reduce our garbage by bringing in containers. You could also use eco-friendly canvas grocery bags.

We can use containers instead of using plastic bags. Also instead of having to throw out all of the extra food we do not eat we can only take enough food that we can eat. Finally we can but the family size bag instead of little bags to reduce the amount of the plastic.

1. I would use plastic contanors instead of plastic bags.
2. I would mention to the school about a garbage free lunch day(s).
3. Get people to help you pick up garbage in a local park and then bury the garbage so it can decompose.
4. Use cloths and not paper towels
5. Use plastic/metal plates instead of paper plates. =: )

Some things we could do at school would be to use both sides of our notebook paper, pick up all the garbage (especially under the lunch table), and recycle.
Instead of throwing something away, use it in a craft.

Show more pictures of birds.

At school we could get recycle bins in the lunch room to recycle things from our lunch that can be recycled.

1. Eat more fruit.
2. Show people around here how to recycle.
3. Eat more vegetables instead of packaged food.
4. Try to make a compost.
5. Recycle what you can.
