Can you help us manage our money? printer.gif

Daily Dilemma for 4-15-08:

Everything is more expensive in Brazil than it was in Peru. Especially food costs more. Do you have any advice for us that would help us keep our spending to a minimum?

Response from 4-14-08:

You had many suggestions for how to make Warren's goodbye special. Carol is making a special stew for dinner. We're all excited to eat it. So far, we know the ingredients are chicken, potatoes, carrots, and garlic.
We'll also listen to music and maybe even dance. There is a pool at the hotel, so we'll all go for a swim too!

I think that you should buy the more inexpensive things and if you have enough money you can buy yourself a treat.

we think that you should work at a farm or market in exchange for money or food. Perhaps a farm can donate any extra crops to your group. Also you may want to try fishing for your own food.

Make your food from the resources from the environement and fish more. Can you possibly not stay at the hotels and camp out?

I think you should try to catch a fish and cook it your self. If that does not work you should try to find some food in the trees that is eatable.

I think you should work in exchang for money or food. You should do some favors like plant some crop for a farm. You can fish for food. Haven't you done that befor

Maybe try not to buy any sodas, only for a luxury and drink more inexpensive liquids. Hunt your own food, fish, and make more money by trying to do work at a farm for some extra cash. Use more rice, oatmeal, buy only the essentials. Camp out more.

You could sell food outside for people

you could find fruts and sel them to people.you can make thing out of the foest and you could sel them.

You can get more money by working or something. Working in stores like a food store or getting more money or work in a bank or we can prich in money to you

I think you should buy things in big quantities and when they are on sale.

I think that you should only eat what you need to eat. Dont eat it when you dont need it just when you need it.

You should buy the cheaper things and maybe work to earn more money, or work to trade for food.

Our third graders suggest catch some fish and then trade the rest for food. Eat fruit and nuts from rain forest. Use the credit card and pay later. Buy only your needs and not the wants. Buy from open markets not the grocery store and look for the Walmart

Maybe you can trade your goods for ones that you need. You can fish more, eat more rice, oatmeal and maybe even sell extra fish. Eat more fruit found in the beautiful environment.

P.S. We are concerned about Dave Freeman. We haven't seen him in awhile. Are you okay Mr. Freeman? We will be happy to see you again.

Collect as much as you can in the wild. Go fishing. Purchase in bulk if you can. Adib says, "You can go on a fast." Mr. K says, paddling all day in the heat may not work very well with fasting.

Take as much as you can from peru and bring it with you to brazil or get food from nature.

Go into the jungle and look for bnanas and things that grow naturally.

My class said to check out the market and see what is affordable and eat that. They said that rice cooks up easily and maybe you can catch your own fish. Are there edibles in the forests that you recognize?

Maybe in your travels you could pick up something to trade for food at the market.

We think that on your spare time you guys should go to a farm and ask the people there if you could work in the fields. Then ask the owners if they could pay you some money for helping them out. After that you could spend it wisely on food and some candy.

We think you should go into the rainforest and collect some foods that you can eat for free. We also think that you mihgt be able to trade with the people instead of spending real money. One more idea is that you might just want to eat less food while you are in Brazil.

They can catch their own food, like fish or look for fresh fruit to eat. Ration your food. Instead of staying at a hotel, maybe you can camp out or stay at a villager's home.

Happy Trails.

P.S. Where is Dave Freeman? We miss him!

Maybe you should not try to buy any junk food. Just buy the things you really need to have.

Well I think you should only buy the neccesary stuff but only a little from each.

I think you should just deal with it because over here it might even cost more here. Maybe I think some should say that you have a different kind of money and you need to eat.

Here are some ideas:
If you can, fish for yourselves. Only buy what is absolutely necessary. find fruits, nuts and berries in the forest that you know are safe to eat. See if villagers are willing to feed you. Trade something that you do not need as much for the food. Exchange your work for their food.

We think you should not buy souveniers and focus on what you really need, food. It is important to get what you need to survive.

hey i say u buy the cheapest or get a link card

We think you should buy enough food for a couple of days and then use the leftovers for future meals. Also you could save the leftovers from Warren's party to eat later.

I think that you should collect food from the rainforest. I also think you should use all your food before you buy more.

Buy food in bulk, eat more rice and oatmeal. A Sam's Club would be very convenient. Granola bars are a nice option. Fish and eat fruit that is in the forest. Also, camp out and save money instead of staying in a hotel, or stay at a villager's home overnight and instead of paying you can offer them an American souvenoir. Good Luck.

P.S. Matt thought if you hang out with the Toucans maybe they would offer you Froot Loops :} Also, we have not seen Dave Freeman in quite a while - are you okay Mr. Freeman. We miss you!

Search for food on trees,. and eat it or sell it. If there is another village close by, maybe their food is cheaper. Eat less. Bargain with the sellers. Trade your items that you do not need

It is important to keep a budget. You should use a grocery list and not get anything else but what is on it. No impulse buying. Also, to keep the budget, you should comparison shop. For instance, maybe you could buy rice in a bulk size package rather than small packages. Also, you could follow the diet of the local people. They have to be able to afford to eat, so they must know what is the cheapest way and the best food.

We think you should buy only the necessities, such as water, to avoid spending too much money.

We think you could spend your money wisely and just buy food that you really need, like no junk food and nothing extra. You could even try hunting if you wanted to.

Use as much free food from the forest as possible. Buy only the inexpensive items. Trade for food while traveling. Clare says to buy food at a lower cost in Peru and use it to trade for more valuable items when in Brazil.

We think that you should only buy what you truely need such as just enough food to get you by to the next town. By doing that you will be saving a lot of money that you might need for something really important like an extra first aid kit.

We think that you should walk everywhere insted of taking a "taxi". This way you will save money and get excercise. We also think you should buy only the essentials like (rice, lentiles, and oatmeal) from a market out of town so the prices will be lower.

Maybe you could trade some things at the market place. You might be able to fish and find wild fruits to eat. (Make sure to check if they are okay to eat.) If you have time, you might be able to work a little on the farm to earn some of the crops.

I think you should trade some things that you might not need for food and other stuff. You should try to haggle the prices too. EAST COAST!!!:)

You should fish for most of your food so, you can have more money in an emgerecy.@!

I think that you guys should try to find a good job that you could get food for working. That way you would get paid and still keep your money. I hope that helps and good luck!

I think you should just stock up on a lot of food so then you are actually saving money. If you have time you could find a quick job.

I think you could save money in Brazil on food by eating a breakfest of rice and lentils (an unordinary mornig meal). For lunch you could have bananas and cookies for a snack to last you till dinner.

It would be better to eat rice because it is inexpensive and it is filling, you could add lentils so it isn't just rice that doesn't have any flavor. Bananas are good for you and they have flavor and you could have a cookie or two to last you until dinner. It's easy to make and wouldn't take a lot of time to eat, you would have money for a decent dinner.

It would be good for the enviroment because there aren't any metal or plastic containers so there wouldn't be anything that can't decompose. I think my idea would work and save money.
