What Should We Do In Belen?
While we are in Iquitos we are going to go to a very unique neighborhood called Belen. We'd like your suggestions as to what we should do while in Belen- there is a ton to see and do along this vibrant section of the Amazon River. Most of the people live in houses that rise and fall with the river on rafts; others stand on longer-lasting stilts. Touring the area is best done in boats, so we could hire a canoe and paddle the port and narrow waterways where everyone lives. We could visit a local school where all the children either paddle or swim to get there.
Belen has one of the greatest marketplaces in the entire Amazon. With a careful eye, we can find anything imaginable to eat, from turtle or crocodile meat to spectacular exotic fruits. If you wish, we'll try new and unusual foods that you'd like to know about. Maybe you want us to look for endangered animals like monkeys, macaws, or caimans for sale. Finally, there is a section to the Belen Market with herbalists that sell jungle remedies that they say can cure anything from cancer to arthritis. Let us know what you'd like us to do while in Belen.

Most students would love to see what a school is like in the Amazon. If you have tiime to look for endangered animals, several students are interested in that also.
