What did you learn during the expedition?
We learned so much during the Trans-Amazon Expedition. We learned about Peruvian culture, the importance of the rainforest, what life is like living in the Amazon Basin, about what animals and plants need to survive in the flooded forest.
We know what we learned and hopefully we were able to pass some of that knowledge onto you.
We want to hear from you, though! What did you learn about the rainforest? What does the rainforest mean to you?
Did you learn anything about what it takes to embark on an expedition? What does exploration mean to you?
We’d also love to hear about what conservation programs you, your school, or community are involved in. Send us your thoughts. We’re anxious to hear from you!

We learned that we should not take our resources for granted. We need to be resourceful. Our class recycles bottles, cans, and other plastic and metal items.

My students have learned so much that we can't mention it all! Here are a few things the students wanted to share with the team:
1. They learned about the layers of the rainforest and plants and animals that live in each layer.
2. The people of the rainforest live a very different life than us and get everything they need from their environment. They have to adapt to living in the flooded rainforest.
3. They don't have stores to buy food, but grow almost everything they need.
4. All the students have learned why so many animals from the rainforest have become endangered. All students agree that they do not want to buy an endangered rainforest animal from a pet store anymore!
5.Rubber is a product of the rainforest.
6. We learned about illegal logging and wish there was more we could do to stop it.
7. The Amazon is the most biodiverse ecosystem! (and we learned what biodiversity is!!)
8. People farm on the sides of the mountains and their crops are mostly different than those here in Illinois.
9. We learned about cloud forests - we didn't know what they were before your trip.
10. People travel by dugout canoe and kids paddle a canoe to school.
My class had no suggestions for improving The Wilderness Classroom - they thought it was perfect! Thanks for an amazing trip. See you soon!

I learned many things, but most importantly I learned to help wild life and make sure you take your time to stop and notice everything. Not to just glance, but to stare and wonder about wild life

I think it was GREAT that you went into the Amazon Rain forest. It really taught me what animals and helpful objects the rainforest provides for us.
I think it was so cool we could see you on your adventure! I would really like to thank Patrick for coming to our school before and after his trip. I loved the baby sloth video and it made me so mad to know that all these adorable creatures are endangered! I never really knew about places far away like Peru and It was cool to be able to learn about it instead of just Math and Science. Again, I really appreciate you going into the rainforest to set all this up!
