We’ve been very fortunate with our drinking water so far. We have been able to use the clean waters of the Samiria River and/or tap water from the towns along the way. We add water purification tablets that contain a chlorine compound. Now we are leaving the protection of the Samiria watershed and heading into the much larger and more polluted watershed of the Maranon River. The murky water of the Maranon comes from a much larger and more populated area so it is hard to tell what could be in it. We would rather not drink that water if you can help us come up with alternatives. We have a five gallon bucket that is dedicated for our drinking water, so we will be sure to fill it up before leaving the mouth of the Samiria. What should we do when we run out of good, clean water? Would you mind drinking the murky waters of the Maranon? Where does your drinking water come from?

Comments

When the water becomes too polluted to drink, you could boil the drinking water.

Chris thinks you could boil the water to clean it before you drink it.

Dylan suggests you get some juicy fruits and drink the juice for your water.

You should drink the river water, but put a purification tablet in the water. Maybe you could boil the water first to kill anything in it.

We have a couple of different suggestions. 1) Use the water purification tablets on the murky water.
2) Use a sieve/filter to run the water through.
3) Save some of the Samirian water and mix it with the murky water to dilute it.

Maybe you should find coconuts and drink the milk until you find safe water to drink.

What should we do when we run out of water?

We think you should boil some water, let it cool, and use that.

We think you should boil the water. Another idea would be to get some of your water through eating fruits or more natural ways. Maybe you could screen out the water and get some of the dirt out. Maybe you could collect rain water.

Our water comes form Lake Michigan.
Would a portable water purifier work in this situation? Is the water too dirty for this? Do you have one? Could you use liquid from fruit to survive?

You could drink the water if you boil it or you put purafacation tablets in it.

You could boil your water. My water comes from lake superior. I hope you have fun on your trip!

Dear Team, I think that you should fill up your 5 gallon thing and then you should maybe from time to time drink that nasty water, a little dirty water won't hurt you!

Dear team,
I think they should boil the water and then put your purification tablet and it should wipe out all the mucky stuff! Make a good decision.

There are many ways you could purify the water so you could drink it. You could boil it if you have a stove of a fire, you could filter the water with something like a net, or you could trust the tap water and drink that!

my soulution is to purifi the murkey water. Because you never know whats in that water.

I think you guys should go out to thejungle and mabey get water from leafs.Maybe shake some trees, ask the locals for some water....well if there are some locals there or not.
mabey you can boil it or put some of those cleaner
cap things.

Between filters (including a sun filter using plastic over a hole), chemical treatment, and boiling, Class 303 decided that chemically treating the water is fastest. Though it tastes yucky.

drink the murky water after you boil it then it will be purified

You should boil your water and also add chlorine tablets.

what kind of water do you drink? The water you drink is it ill to make people sick?I hope you write me back for we could talk again on the computer?I am in room 102 in Everett School in 4th grade p.s. from julisa Sanchez And Xochilt Huizar Bye........

When the water gets too dirty and polluted, just boil it to make it sterile!
