It has been wonderful to take a shower for the first time in about a month- no our personal hygiene was not a dilemma. We have been bathing in the river and/or using buckets of rain water to do our washing. The trouble is we are introducing pollutants and detergents into the watershed with every cleaning. We brought along some biodegradable soap but that is all gone. Most places in Peru and the “developing world” do not have sewage treatment facilities, so dirty water is plumbed straight into the rivers or ocean. We would like your help knowing what to do concerning our water usage. We’re all do for some laundry. Should we take it to a laundromat, do it ourselves, or wait until we get back home? Are there ways we can conserve our water consumption and prevent pollution? What can you do to allow for a healthy watershed around your home?

We think you should collect lots of rain water and wash your own clothes because then you don't have to pay for a laundromat, and you are not polluting the water.

We think you should take it to the laundromat because then you are not hurting the water in the watershed. You could also wait until you get back home but then you might run out of clothes.

Both of us think that you should take it to a laundromat because it would not take as long as washing them yourselves. We also think that it would be more fun and interesting to see how it would be in a rainforest laundromat.

We think that you should do your laundry yourselves. We think you should not use the detergents and shampoo because that could poision the fish in the river.
We could stop using gas powered boats to protect watersheds in our home.

You should go to a laundromat and give them one article of clothing and if it is good quality, (clean), continue washing. If it is bad quality, wait until you get home.

That's a trick question! Just don't pollute!

We think you should wait until you get back home if you can or use rain water to rinse your clothes.

How does it feel to take a shower in the river? Are there any animals in the river when you or the team takes a shower?I think that you should wait until you get home so you won't waste your time. That is what I think about the team and stuff. Also I think it would be cool to take a shower in the river.

I think that you should collect lots of rain water when it rains and wash your clothes that way. Because then your not poluting the water and your also staying clean.. Hope you like my idea!!!!

I think you guys could take buckets of water from the watershed and bring it on land and clean up and wash dishes on land. Instead of getting all of the junk in the water.

We think you should try washing it yourselves. You should rinse off your clothes in the rivers or in a bucket of rain water. This will help rinse off the dirt and keep it somewhat clean.
To conserve water at home, don't run the water while you brush your teeth, take shorter showers, and don't waste drinking water- dump it in the soil to help the flowers.

I think people who use the river for transportation often should bike more. If they are not able to bike then they should walk. For bathing, people should use soap that will not poison fish or plantlife in the rivers.

We think that you guys should go to laundromat to do your laundry so you don't pollute the watershed.

Maybe go to the laundry mat for traveling clothing and when in the US you can do your laundry here.

We think you should take your clothes to the laundry mat. THis way the water in the watershed will not get damaged any further. If you have enough clothes, wait until you get home. The plumbing in the states is safer

i think you should wash your clothes when you get home. then you don't have to worry about the watershed at all. although you might get to be a little smelly, after awhile.=[

We think you should wash clothes yourself in a bucket of water because if you wait until you get home they coulg have fungus, bugs, and unwanted germs.

We think that you should go to a laundromat in a town, or else you might pollute their watershed.
They should use less motorized boats to keep their watershed clean! Pollution could destroy wildlife (including fish).

Do laundries use non-biodegradable soaPp?
How much soap do you use each time? Maybe, suggested one student. you could plan better next time.
another suggested to do your own laundry and pour the water on land far away enough from water to filter out the pollutants.
Dig a hole for the water to dump it in.

I think you guys and girls should use less water so for example you could take two showers a day.
