The mystery photo that you just saw is leaf cutter ants.
Leaf
cutter ants are very unique creatures. They are some of the most efficient animals
in the entire rainforest! These little ants cut small holes into the leaves of
plants. Then, they pick up the pieces of leaf (often times several times the size
of their body) and carry the pieces of leaf into their dens. Once in the burrow,
the leaves are put into a giant compost pile. As the leaves decompose, a type
of fungus grows. The ants then eat that fungus.
Leaf cutter
ants are fun to watch. They move throughout the forest in huge single file lines,
chewing away at every leaf they can find!

Throughout the rainforest, signs of leaf cutter ants are evident everywhere. They
are incredible strong for their little size, and can be found working at all hours
of the day.
