Where should we paddle on the Huallaga River?
Our dilemma is where we should keep the canoes while we paddle? There are three options: out in the main current, along the river´s bank, or a combination of both.
The main river channel is faster. The swifter current allows us to go much faster, because the majority of the water is flowing down the middle of the river. The downside to the main river channel is that it´s where other boats travel. We don´t think it would be a problem to get out of the way of other boats, and most boats would see us coming. The main river channel also offers little to no shade, and it´s been really hot and sunny.
The riverbank offers much more shade. It´s a little slower than the main channel, but there are also more hazards in the water, like floating logs, roots, and whirlpools. We do not want to hit things in our canoes, because they coud cause us to tip over. Paddling along the riverbank might also give us a better opportunity to see wildlife or interesting plants and trees.
Paddle in both the riverbank and main channel. We could paddle out to the center of the river if there wasn´t much traffic or it wasn´t too sunny and hot. We could move over to the bank if the river channel was crowded with boats. We also might be able to spend the sunniest parts of the day in the shade of the riverbank looking for critters.
Tell us what you think and why.

We think you should paddle in both the main channel and along the riverbank. We think you should do this because you can be in the shade but go slower or be in the sun but go faster. If you go both ways watch out for those water hazards!

First of all, I am sure the sun can be hot and the hard paddling can make you sweat so you guys deserve some shade. The hazardous objects in the way will make it exciting and fun so you guys have something to do!
Thanks!

Traveling in both parts gives you the best of both worlds. You can travel quickly in the main channel, and then move to the shade if you get hot or if there are many other boats. Being along the bank you could see more animals also.
