What should we do with our bikes at the end of our trip?
The dilemma we`ve been having is what to do with our bikes in Yurimaguas. We can`t take them with them with in the canoes, and we won`t pass through Yurimaguas again to pick them up.
So what do we do with them? Should we try to sell them? Should we try trade them for things we`ll need in the rainforest? Should we give them away?
We paid about $120 for each bike. What do you think they`re worth after traveling 1,000 kilometers over the Andes? Should we give them to Warren as part of his payment for guiding us into the forest?
There are lots of possibilites. What is the most responsible thing to do? How can we recover some of our money spent, or should we not even worry about it?
Let us know what you think and why?

Hello!
The students at Orchard View elementary in Middlebury, Indiana have some great suggestions for you and your team. We feel that you should sell your bikes so you can purchase needed supplies for the future. It is our opinion that you should sell the bikes for around $50 to $60 a piece.
Do you already have the supplies need for your canoe trip such as paddles and life jackets? Do you have to pay for your canoes or is this already payed for.
We suggest you take care of these expences first.

Give them to warren if he wants them
if he doesn't want them then try to trade them for things you need.

Our class has a variety of answers to the bike dilemma. The top vote getter is to trade the bikes for things you will need (7 votes). A second choice would be to clean them up and then sell them, maybe to poor people for a very cheap price (5 votes). The third choice is to give two of the bikes to Warren as compensation and then trade the other two (3 votes). The final option is to give the bikes away to kids (1 vote).

I think that the bikes should go to Warren because as a reward. He could sell them, or use them to ride around in Iquitos.

We think you should trade the bikes for materials you need on your rainforest part of the adventure, we think the village people will have many vaulable items for your journey.

Although 4 thought you should sell the bikes, most of the class decided you should trade for what might be useful on your trip.

I think you should give your bikes for something else in the rain forest.

As a class we think you should give one bike to Warren, 2 bikes to children that do not have bikes and trade one bike for supplies.

Our class overwhelmingly agreed that you should trade your bicycles in for supplies you may need for the rainforest portion of your trip. If you just give them away, then you won't benefit at all. You may need extra supplies, so trading the bikes would be a good way to get them and maybe someone there really needs bikes.

As a class we felt the most resourcesful thing to do would be to trade the bikes for things you may need later on during your trip.

Ithink you guys should sell your bikes so you can get more supplies for the rainforest in the amazon. When you are done selling your bikes ride your cannoes to the store and get your supllies for the amazon.

You could sell the bikes to buy things that you will need in the rainforest later on.

We think that you guys should give one or two bikes to Warren, if he wants them. For the other bikes we think it would be best to trade them or give them to people who could use them, since biking is better for the earth than driving. We think that selling your bikes might take too long. For what the cost would be for the bikes we think it would be less than $100, but it also depends on how much work you guys put into them and how much the materials cost to fix them.

I think you should sell them and pay some of the money to the Warren. I also think you should sell the bikes for $200 each so you make money.
Posted by: St.Ann Alex | April 16, 2007 2:17 PM
I think that you should try to find someone who will buy the bikes for a good price. Then you could use the money for your own needs. Or you could trade your bikes in for supplies and other things you might need.

We think that you should trade the bikes.
When you trade, everyone gets just what they need.

I think that they should trade their bikes for supplies that they might need in the rainforest. If they run out of supplies they may not survive. You should not give them away. I would rather you sell your bikes so that way you will have money to buy supplies.

Woohoo - you're in the Amazon!!! We're excited! Most of our class thinks that you should sell the bikes for a low price. That way some people will get a good deal on a bike and you're doing some good to help people and you'll also get some money that you can use to buy the supplies that you need. Warren probably doesn't need all of your bikes, but you could give him one if he wants it and sell the others.

1st - Try to trade them for supplies. If you don't get any offers for more than you could get by selling them, then sell them.
2nd - If you can't sell them within an hour, donate them to the community for a cooperative bike rental service for the community, perhaps a free one.

You should sell them because there isn't a lot of room on the canoe for them.=)

Half of our group felt that you should trade the bikes for supplies that you will need in the rainforest. This would save you money for later in the trip. The next largest faction wants you to sell the bikes.

We think you guys should give the bikes to a needy village and either let the people share them or give them to a deserving person. Giving your bikes away to a needy village would be kind because they might not have enough to trade to you.
