How should we tackle the steep mountains? printer.gif

We´ve got some large mountains ahead of us. The bike riding up to this point has been fairly flat, but we took out the maps again today and realized that we would have a very hard couple days in front of us.

The problem is that there is a lot of steep climbing to get from Olmos to Pucara. To stay on schedule, we are supposed to be in Pucara on Friday. There´s nearly 6,000 vertical feet of climbing. It´s also very steep. The mountains rise sharply, and that makes riding very difficult.

You are in charge of deciding how we tackle this climb.

Our options are: 1. Take a full rest day in Olmos on Thursday. On Friday, we can try to make the 60-mile ride all the way to Pucara in one day. There´s lots of climbing, and it will be extremely difficult, but we´ll remain on schedule.

2. Take a half-day rest on Thursday and spend Thursday afternoon pedaling about halfway up the mountain. On Friday, we would continue to Pucara. This would keep us on schedule and allow us to break our ride up into more manageable chunks. However, we would have less time to explore Olmos.

3. Take a full rest day in Olmos on Thursday. On Friday, we would bike half-way up the mountain. On Saturday we would continue to Pucara. This would mean we spend one more day biking, and one less day in our canoes.

How should we tackle the steep mountains
Take a full rest day, and pedal all the way to Pucara
Take a half rest day, and break the ride up, but stay on schedule
Take a full rest day, and break up the ride, but lose a day in the canoes

Take a half day-rest on Thursday then continue up the mountains. You always want to stay on schedule.

We think you should bike half day on Thursday and half on Friday.

Where (and how) are you going to sleep on the mountain?

Have a safe trip up and down the mountains.

Class 303

Dave´s Answer:

We will try to sleep in a small town near the top of the mountain.

you should rest the whole day then you have more time to explore durring your day of rest. Is Olmos a town a city
or just a little campgounds?

Answer:
Almos is a town of several thousand people.

I think you should stay on schedual so you can have the sametime in canoe as planned

It's better if you rest some and bike some you will stay well exercise but continue to stay on task
