What should eat for lunch while biking? printer.gif

As we´re getting deeper into the mountains, the villages along our route are getting smaller. There are a few small towns that we will be passing through once or twice a week. However, the majority of towns have very few food stores. We have been fortunate to find plenty of food along the way thus far, but it might become a problem in the future.

Our dilemma has been what to eat for lunch while we´re biking. Obviously what we eat has to be light enough to carry and nutritious enough to fill us up after hours of physically demanding work. Here´s a list of options. You decide what is best for us to eat.

1. Tuna fish and crackers and some bananas. While it´s not the greatest tasting, it´s very high in protein and other nutrients that will keep us energized along the way. So far everywhere we´ve been has had plenty of it for sale. It´s also not very expensive. Bananas are great for recovering from very hard physical work and travel well.

2. Try to find restaurants or other places to buy food during the day. So far we´ve been seeing places to buy bread, vegetables, and maybe even some baked goods along the way. These are sold from carts along the side of the road. These would be great because we wouldn´t have to carry them. They´ve also been very inexpensive thus far. However, we´re going through less populated areas, so we might have travel a long time before finding one. If we´re really hungry and tired, we wouldn´t be able to stop when we needed to.

3. Buy cooked food the night before and bring it along There´s also a possibility that we might be able to buy lunches the night before. These would be very balanced meals, but very heavy to carry on the bikes. They´re also much more expensive than the other two options, and there´s a risk that they might get spoiled in the sun or wet in the rain we´re sure to encounter.

It´s up to you to keep us fueled up.

I love tuna fish and crackers and bananas! Also I think that it is the best choice to make and the healthiest.

We choose choice one, tuna fish, crackers and bananas. These are healthy and won't spoil. They will help you have energy for the hard work you're doing!

Our class thinks that Tuna fish and crackers would be the best choice. We tried to vote but it didn't work.

We think the best bet is #1. It is most readily available & light enough to carry on the bikes.

Perhaps you could get some fresh goat's milk or cheese when you come across them. These are very nutritious, high in calcium, fat which turns into needed energy for your trip!

We think the tuna fish, because it's healthy and not heavy to carry.

i think you guys should eat tuna fish with crackers and a bannana because all the others might take a longer time and they might go bad but tuna fish and crackers and bananas probably won't.

i pick the tuna fish and crackers with bananas because its healthy for you and plus you don't want to get tired in the amazon. For my opinion why don't you eat guinea pig that would be a good choice...well maybe.dont they eat them in south america?????

Hello! How are things going? How was the tuna fish? Is that what you ended up eating on your bike ride? We are checking the trail notes and other things on your web-site now that we are back from spring break! What type of crackers were they? Until next time...

Tuna and crackers and bananananananas are probably the best bet.

I think you guys should have some sanwithes packed and nothing like crackers witch can get smushed. You should somthing that you lie but that is not going to get smushed and at the sme time eat what you like. Make sher you dont bring anything tat goes to waste to fast because then you wont have anything to eat. Hope you all find a way to eat, be carful!
