Should we take the Canal, or the Main Channel?
The votes are in and students have decided that we should spend extra time in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, and end our trip in Nauta. We are looking forward to spending more time looking for animals and exploring the park. Next week we will leave the reserve and paddle down the Maranon River to Nauta. The journey will take us 3 or 4 days.
Part way down the Maranon River there is a canal call Cano Yanayaquillo. This canal cuts off a large bend in the Maranon River and travels back into the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. It would take us approximately one day to paddle down the canal, and we are wondering if you would like us to follow the main river channel, or take the Cano Yanayaquillo.
The main river channel has a faster current and would allow us to see more country. We would encounter many small towns and family farms. We probably would not see as many animals, but we would have the opportunity to interact with more people. If we follow the Yanayaquillo we would be traveling on a narrow, slow-moving waterway. We would not cover as many miles, but we would be more likely to encounter monkeys, birds, and other animals.
Our fate is in your hands. It is time for you to Cast YOUR Vote!
The Votes are in, and we're headed down the Canal! Stay tuned for some great photos of all the wildlife we hope to see.

My class voted overwhelmingly to take the canal to see more animals. (I however, hope that you are able to intereact with more people along the way. I love the cultural aspects of your trips!)

We would like you to take the main river canal because you are already in the Pacaya Simara Reserve. We would like to see more people.

We think you should stick to the main river channel because we would like to learn more about the people and their towns. We haven't heard much about them.

I think it would be cool to see more people and see how they live and how they live differently than us. you might also be able to try new things or foods if you visit different people

Hi,
It's Claudia and Stephanie.
We just wanted to say that we think you should just take the main river channel so that you could socialize with more people.

We think that you should take the Cano Yanayaquillo because if you do, then you will be able to see many unique animals and how they live, such as pink river dolphins and squirrel monkeys.

We think that you should take the cannal because it would be more fun to see exotic animals than to see people. Plus you have already been through many towns full of people.

I think you should go on the canal because you went on this trip to exlpore animals and plants. I mean, interacting with people is good too, but i think seeing different animals would be more entertaining. So in my opinion, go with the canal.
