Should we harvest edible plants?
As we travel through Pacaya Samiria, Warren keeps pointing out edible plants. So far we’ve only tried a few fruits. They are all fantastic. However, gathering food from the rainforest is long and difficult work. So far the payoff has been worth the effort. However, we have several long days ahead of us, and we won’t have much time to gather fruits. Besides, we have lots of food in the canoes. The dilemma is should we stop to gather food in the rainforest? Is this something you’d like to see photos or videos of? Should we stop to gather food during a small part of the day, or stay focused on paddling throughout the day? Let us know what you think and why.

My class thinks it would be fun for the team to try new foods and they would like to see what types of food are growing in the forest.

Most voted to have you try some new things so we could see a comparison between the fruits we know and the ones in the Amazon. We also wanted to learn some new plants. Mr. Hoag of Columbus West, 303 is VERY interested in new plants for medicine and health.
We can't wait to hear again from you. Could you also send some pictures of some of the plants/fruits?
Thanks
303, Columbus West

I think that you should plan to take a little time to look at and try some of the foods and try to take some pictures of the food and if it would be possible to bring some back for us to try.

Yes, we do think that you should take some time to try some new fruits, plants, or fish so that you can understand more about what people in the rainforests eat every day.

Yes, try new things! We want to try an edible plant too! Some people in our class have tried some plantains. Also try to post how it tastes, and show a video of you eating some of the plants.

I think that you should gather tropical fruit save it and try it from american fruit. Also, how are tropical fruits and vegitables? How different from american fruits and vegitables? Well I hope you will keep going.

We think you should try and harvest edible plants because it is a good learning experience. It would also be blasts of fun trying to harvest these exotic plants while at home we do not have to do much to eat corn and other plants. By the way, please show us a mystery photo of a plant in the process of being harvested! Thank you for listening!

We think that you should keep paddling because you will get a chance to see more animals. Also when you have finished going a long way you will have time to take a break and have fun. You might also see more edible plants to pull. So if you don't pick the plants first you can do it later.

We think that you should take time to stop and try new foods because it would be interesting to know more about the plants of the rain forest.

We think you should stop and take time to gather fruits because the fruits might be really tasty and if you get bored with the food you have, you will have new food to try.

We voted for you to try new things since the purpose of your trip is to explore and share new things with us. But we also don't want you to take too much time gathering food because there are other things to see.
