Lagunas or Reserve? printer.gif

At the end of the week we´ll be passing through the small village of Lagunas. We need your help to know how to spend our time there. We don´t know a whole lot about Lagunas, but it is a river town just outside of the Pacaya Samaria Reserve. Our guide, Warren, lives there with his family. It is our last chance for supplies and city life before entering the remote jungle. Life in Lagunas must have a lot to do with the river and the great jungle resources.

Here are your options of how we spend our time.

Hang out in Lagunas an extra day with Warren and his family. This will help us to understand what they do in thier daily lives. From past trips with Warren we know that he farms most of his food and raises chickens as a small business. He also rides a bicycle to the farm fields 10km each direction.

Stay in Lagunas an extra day to learn more about the children in the community. We could go to the local elementary school and see what school is like for them. An extra day in Lagunas would also give us time to explore the local markets that probably have many interesting rainforest products.

Head into the Pacaya Samaria Reserve, and forget about spending more time in the village. There will certainly be lots of wildlife to see and an extra day would give us more time to observe the great outdoors.

So what do you think? Should we hang out with Warren, the village´s children, or head into the wilderness?

Sorry

We are very interested to see what a school in that area is like, so please spend an extra day with children and at the market.

We would like to have you visit a local school so that we can see how things compare with our own experience. We would like to know what subjects students study; how long the school day is; what their routine is; if they eat lunch at school and, if so, what they eat; do they wear uniforms?

I want you to go to a reserve to see the different kinds of animals.

In discussion, the classroom gave these reasons for their voting. 1) Visiting the family would allow them to be nice and bond with Warren, which is important since he is your guide. Also, some of the students are interested in what family life is like in the rain forest of Peru. 2) Some of the students want to know if the schools are strict and if they have fun like at recess. 3) A few students think that the rain forest is so cool, that you should get right to it and explore. Also, they think that it might take a day or so to get your routine down for the canoe part.

we are very interested to see what you do next

Stephanie and I think you should pass Laguna's which gives you more time to explore the rainforest.

It's always nice to see your family. Visit Warren's family. I would be happy to see my family after a long time!

I want to know what the schools are like over there. I'm very curious.

We think that you should stay in Laguanas and stay with Warren and his family so that you cand learn about their culture and family.

your job is cool
