Internet Cafes or Satellite Phone?
We`ve found that in smaller towns the internet cafes have extremely slow internet connections. It can take hours at the internet cafe just to send a few emails. The internet cafes cost a lot less money than our other option: the satellite phone.
The second option is our satellite phone. We use the satellite phone to connect to the internet when we are in remote sections of the rainforest. It`s fast, very reliable (as long as there aren`t any mountains in the way), but expensive to use.
So do we use Internet Cafes when they`re available. They`re slow, but they cost a lot less money - about $.75 per hour.
Or do we start using the satellite phone. We`d spend some more money, but we`d also be less frustrated. The satellite phone costs about $1.30 per minute.
Tell us what you think and why!

We feel that the satellite phone would be the best option, but we are confused because we thought you said you would be leaving the phone behind. Do you have more than one satellite phone? We are curious to know.

Only use the satellite phone if you have to.

After much discussion and good ideas, my class thinks you should use the internet cafes when avaiable to save money to use for food, supplies, or for the satellite phone when you really need to use it in the rainforest.

We think the satellite phone is the best choice. While it costs more, the frustration is not worth it! We don't want tired and frustrated explorers!

We voted for using the satellite phone. One of our students pointed out, "There is a rule in life. You get what you pay for!" The consensus was that you would have more time for exploration if you used the quicker means of communication.
