To shave or not to shave? printer.gif

It seems like before each Wilderness Classroom expedition, students ask Dave about his beard. During the winter months, Dave grows a beard to help him keep warm. However, when the weather warms up, he occasionally shaves it off. In North America, during the fur trade era, it was common for explorers and adventurers to shave before coming into towns or trading posts. Dave has found that in the rainforest, his beard protects him from insect bites. Can you help Dave decide what to do? Should he take the traditional route and begin the adventure clean-shaven, or should he head into the expedition beard intact?

he looks better with out his beard because hee looks more younger...lol

We think Dave should not shave his beard. It will protect him from all of the vicious insects!

We think you should not shave because it's more uncomfortable having bites than a beard.

We don't want Dave to shave if the beard helps protect his face from bites.

13 of our group voted to have Dave shave arguing that his beard might be hot and cause him to sweat which would attract insects. One student even mentioned the possibility of his getting lice in his beard. Some suggested that he could have the same benefits as the beard by using insect repellent. 5 students voted that he should keep the beard to ward off insects.

It was a unanimous decision that you should shave. Students point out that the rainforest is hot and the beard would be uncomfortable. It also might attract small animals or catch burrs. When it gets wet it might attract even more.
The protective factor of the beard is not as great as the risks we perceive.

i like how you look with out your bear but since you like it so much you should only shave a little bit

no because hair keeps you warm

We think that you should keep your beard because 1. it will protect you from disease carrying insect 2. you just look good with a beard (its true)3. And it will save you from cancer caused by sunburns.

1. you shouldnt shave the beard. 2 it can protect you from all sorts of things like bugs and the sun 3. its your choice to shave it. well good luck

You look better shaved

Don't Shave

He wouldn't get any poisionus animals or bug bites if he had his beard. He may sweat more but i think i would feel better if i had a beard and just sweat rather than itching bug bites.

1.You should shave your bread only if your not going through places like the Amazon Rainforest or a montain.2.you shouldn't shave your bread if you are going through the Amazon Rainforest or a montain.3.It's your choice I mean I'm not the boss of you.

you should shave cause you are a old man and not a young man
